The process of sealing a criminal record is a court case where the party charged with or convicted of a crime petitions the court to essentially make the record of the case disappear. This way, future employers and the public cannot see the criminal record. Pursuant to Colorado law, a person with a sealed criminal record is not required to disclose the past record in job interviews and on applications. Having a record successfully sealed is critical for both housing and employment opportunities.
Sealing a record does not prevent law enforcement, prosecutors, or certain other government agencies from accessing the records. In addition, if a person is convicted of a future crime, a sealed record may be unsealed.
